Air Conditioner Leaking Water in Klemzig

Water dripping from an air conditioner usually means a choked condensate line, not a dead unit. Klemzig Air Conditioning finds the cause, fixes it properly and gives you the price before we start, right across Klemzig and the surrounding suburbs.

Why Klemzig Households Call Us First When the Air Conditioner Starts Leaking Water

We are a local, family-owned team with ten years on the tools across Greater Adelaide. Leaks are one of the most common callouts we run, and most turn out to be simpler and cheaper than the puddle suggests.

Common Causes of Aircon Water Leaks

A cooling unit pulls moisture out of the air as it runs, and that water has to go somewhere. When it ends up on your floor instead of down the drain, one of these is usually to blame:

Choked Drain Line

Dust, sludge and sometimes insect nests stop the condensate line flowing, so water backs up and overflows the tray. This is the most common cause and usually the cheapest to clear.

Dirty Filters and Coil

A choked filter or coil can freeze the evaporator, and the ice melts into more water than the tray can hold. A proper clean often sorts this out entirely.

Low Refrigerant Charge

Low refrigerant also ices the coil, and the melt-off overwhelms the drain. This one needs a licensed technician, because handling refrigerant is licensed work.

Pan and Fall Faults

Older units develop cracked or rusted drain pans, and badly graded installations never drain cleanly. Plenty of the post-war brick homes here have had systems retrofitted decades after the build, and some of that older pipework was run through tight roof spaces where sags and joints now sit out of sight.

What You Can Safely Check Yourself

Two quick checks cost nothing and sometimes solve the problem outright. Start here before you book anything:

Turn the unit off

Running it while it leaks spreads water into floors, skirting and, on a ducted system, the ceiling below.

Check the filter

If it is choked with dust, clean or replace it and give the unit a few hours to dry out before restarting.

Look at the outdoor unit

Clear away leaves and debris so airflow is not restricted.

Anything beyond that, leave it. Refrigerant, wiring and internal drainage all need a licensed hand, and poking around inside a unit risks a bigger repair bill than the leak itself.

Do not wait on this

When a Leaking Split System Needs a Technician Now

Call straight away if you see any of these signs, because each one points past a simple blockage:

  • Water dripping through a ceiling or down an internal wall
  • The leak returning within a day of you cleaning the filter
  • Ice on the pipes or the indoor coil
  • A musty smell alongside the water

Water and electrical equipment in the same wall cavity is not a combination to wait on. Our Within-the-Hour Response means urgent leaks get a fast response where availability allows, and we run 24/7 emergency availability for exactly this kind of job.

How it works

How We Fix Air Conditioning Water Leaks

Every leak job starts with diagnosis, because the right fix depends entirely on the cause. The usual run looks like this:

  1. Step 1: Find the water source

We trace whether it is condensate, ice melt or something else entirely.

  2. Step 2: Clear or repair the drain

Flush the condensate line, clear the blockage and confirm the fall carries water away properly.

  3. Step 3: Test the refrigerant and coil

If icing is the culprit, we fix the underlying fault rather than mopping up the symptom.

  4. Step 4: Run and verify

We let the system cycle and prove the water goes where it should before we pack up.

You get Fixed Upfront Pricing before any of that work begins, so there are no hourly rates and no bill shock at the end. All refrigerant work is carried out under ARC Licence L162586, and our Lifetime Labour Warranty covers the workmanship afterward.

Air Conditioning Leaks and Klemzig's Housing Stock

The housing mix here shapes how leaks behave. Detached brick and brick-veneer homes built through the fifties and sixties sit alongside semi-detached places and unit blocks, so a street can hold wall-mounted splits and ducted systems on the same run. Each leaks differently.

Splits.

These tend to overflow at the indoor unit, where you see the water quickly.

Ducted.

A ducted system can hide a leak in the roof space until the ceiling stain appears, which is why we check the tray and line, not just the outlet.

Drainage matters too.

Klemzig sits on low ground falling toward the River Torrens, and stormwater already pushes hard through older connections during heavy rain. A condensate line discharging into a poorly sized gully can back up on a wet day even when the aircon itself is healthy.

So we check where your drain actually runs before we blame the unit. If a leak has been ignored for a while, the coil may need more than a rinse, and our air conditioning cleaning service handles the built-up grime a repair alone will not shift.

Questions

Air Conditioner Leaking Water FAQs

Is water leaking from my aircon an emergency?

It can be, because water sitting on a floor or in a ceiling cavity spreads damage fast, so urgent leaks get our Within-the-Hour Response where availability allows.

Why does my unit only leak on hot days?

A heatwave makes the unit pull far more moisture from the air, so a drain that copes on a mild day overflows once the condensate volume builds up past what it can carry.

Can a leak mean my system needs replacing?

Sometimes, and we will say so honestly, because a cracked drain pan or corroded coil on an older unit often costs more to fix than a replacement saves you.

How much does a leak repair cost?

It depends on the cause, but you get Fixed Upfront Pricing before any work starts, so you know the full figure on paper before a single tool comes out of the van.
